Study: Defining a methodology for urban planning in the zone of Los Herrán

Location of Los Herrán Street in Vitoria-Gasteiz

This project aims to provide a basic description and evaluation of bus stations and urban planning in the zone of Los Herran, Vitoria-Gasteiz. This assessment was made based on indicators that analyze the degree of sustainability to achieve Ecosystemic Urbanism, and is consistent with the Plan of Urban Sustainability Indicators in Vitoria-Gasteiz, developed in 2009.

The proposal seeks to create a new centre by converting the existing bus station into a covered market. This involves reducing the amount of public space and available land for facilities to turn it into housing. It also provides an opportunity for the remodeling of existing urban walkways and the introduction of changes in mobility flows.

The project is evaluated using criteria based on land use, public space and livability, mobility, complexity, green spaces and biodiversity, urban metabolism and social cohesion. The analysis of thess indicators reveals a substantial increase in the levels of sustainability, from 64.9% to 82.6%, most notably in the various aspects of urban metabolism (water and energy).

The project is evaluated using criteria based on land use, public space and livability, mobility, complexity, green spaces and biodiversity, urban metabolism and social cohesion.
