New interchanges in the Orthogonal Bus Network of Barcelona

Formal design of the marquee

This project is based on the design and implementation of new interchanges associated with the Orthogonal Bus Network in Barcelona. The project will consider maximum efficiency criteria, technical specifications (such as materials, maps and models), placement requirements, a cost analysis for a prototype, and the most favorable locations.

The proposed designs take into account both the bus stops and their surroundings. In other words, the marquees are designed to represent a new type of public space, and will become the new interchanges for the bus network.

The new urban furniture will incorporate technologies for multifunctional use. Signage elements will offer improved spaces for waiting, some privacy, opportunity to build relationships, and access to information or advertising.

Moreover, these bus stops will incorporate innovative elements such as ticket vending machines, benches, litter bins, information systems and orientation kiosks, bicycle parking, points of urban information and internet consultation services.

These design elements will provide increased accessibility for people with reduced mobility and will use sustainable technologies. Photovoltaic and wind energy will be introduced to maximize self-sufficiency, and all the products to clean the urban furniture will be environment-friendly.

All of these features will enhance user interaction, therefore improving the entire public transportation experience. Moreover, with the ability to receive bus information through your mobile device, citizens will have the opportunity to stay connected and informed, and will get to their destinations on time.

These bus stops will incorporate innovative elements such as ticket vending machines, benches, litter bins, information systems and orientation kiosks, bicycle parking, points of urban information and internet consultation services.
