A more livable city: Study of habitability in the public space of the districts Sants-Montjuïc, Eixample, Gràcia and Nou Barris

Level of attraction in different districts

This project was an advance in methodologies for the city as it studied levels of habitability in the public space of Barcelona. It evaluated the environmental variables from the perception of different aspects of the city - physiological, psychological, and ergonomic.

The study used a systemic approach to combine the urban scale with the human, in a public space dominated by private vehicles. We then evaluated the current conditions of the public space and identified the factors affecting livability, with the intention of prioritizing public space.

The study was divided into three parts. The first described its purpose and relation to the objectives of Agenda 21 and the Green Paper on Urban Environment. The second part described the livability index, methodology and associated variables. Finally, the third part of the document outlined characteristics of the stages of evaluation applied to the districts of Sants-Montjuïc, Eixample, Gràcia y Nou Barris.
