Methodological study on the application of the GIS tools in waste management: the collection of containers of surface system

The purpose of this work has been to provide a series of indicators which, applied in a GIS (geographic information systems) environment, they are a tool for evaluation and decision-making to choose the system of waste collection taking into account their impacts, its efficiency and the typology of tissues where they are implanted.


Through the application of various methodologies and tools GIS, among which should be noted the analysis of minimum roads, has been to develop two types of indicators: service and environmental impact.

Service indicators evaluate the characteristics and quality of service that is being offered to citizens, while impact indicators try to account for the presence of recycling containers in public space.

 

The category of service indicators:

- Accessibility

- Staffing

- Capacity

 


Environmental impact indicators:

- Visual impact

- Impact on pedestrian mobility

- Energy efficiency

 

Once developed, these indicators should be applied and validated in various tissues of different morphological characteristics. In this way it gives added value to the project since you can verify the applicability of indicators in various tissues and also characterize and evaluate the collection system implemented in five models of different urban fabrics (isolated Apple, Apple open, mixed, casco antiguo and urbanization).
