Ecosystemic Assessment Report of the University of British Columbia Campus in Vancouver

The aim of this Assessment Report is to test the Ecosystemic Program for neighborhood planning in the UBC campus in Vancouver in order to obtain a first approach of the methodological application.

The UBC’s SEEDS Sustainability Program supports academic research projects for students of UBC’s Vancouver campus with the objective to connect student research with UBC operations and using the campus as living lab to advance in campus sustainability plans and policies. Thanks to UBC Seeds, the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona (BCNecologia) worked together with graduate students of the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP)  to test and assess the merit of the Ecosystemic Program for informing and helping to guide the development of neighborhood plans to enhance community, economic and environmental well-being in the UBC and Canadian context.

The indicator system proposed by BCNecologia traditionally responds to a Mediterranean context, which characterizes by a compact and diverse urban model, but it was very well adapted to the new context after a preliminary diagnosis of it. For the first application of the certification system, they have been considered 5 preexisting indicators and 18 existing fabric indicators.
