Comparison of scenarios and proposed improvements

The Urban Information and Modeling System or la Sistema de Información y Modelización Urbana aplicado a los Residuos (SIMUR), gives users the ability to evaluate all stages of a waste management system using computer-generated models. SIMUR is used by applying the moeling software to a specific scenario to understand environmental impacts and operating results and to suggest improvements for each of the stages. The program identifies, evaluates, models, and optimizes waste management options for urban areas to improve their systems.

This software has been applied to the management of municipal waste in the municipality of Vitoria in both its urban and rural areas. Therefore we have gathered some relevant indicators pertaining to environmental and municipal management, such as collection, energy efficiency, the environmental balance of the treatments, their impacts, etc.

Using current city data, the SIMUR system has been used to simulate two future scenarios (2016). The first is based on the application of the Integrated Waste Management Vitoria and the second is a hypothetical scenario that will achieve greater collection selectively with a new approach. This approach will be applied to collection systems, using greener fuels and a biocompost management plant.

By comparing results and scenarios from proposals, BCNecologia will be able to adapt and improve the different stages of management.
