Campaigns for the implementation of selective collection of organic fraction in Barcelona

Notice of the implementation campaign

The project seeks to implement the new selective collection of the organic fraction through educational and media campaigns. It seeks to involve all the inhabitants and the social partners about the importance of separating organic waste at source. The objective is to increase the participation in the already existent selective collection (paper, glass and packaging) and in the collection or recycle point. During the campaigns activities were carried out and neighbors, schools, institutions and companies were invited to participate. This concrete campaign was developed in phases in different neighborhoods of Barcelona. The first phase was in the districts of Nou Baris, Sant Andreu and Horta-Guinardó. During the second phase the project extends to the neighborhoods of Verdum, Prosperitat and La Sagrera and then to Congrés, Navas, Vilapiscina and Turó de la Peira, finally ending with Guinardó and Montbau. Subsequently, in some of the neighborhoods we realized another campaign after a couple of years of the implementation, the objective was to reinforce, maintain and improve the results obtained. This campaign, in its totality, has enabled more than 125,000 homes across Barcelona to recycle the organic wastes. All this resulted that during the year 2002, in Barcelona, 27,000 Tones of organic waste was collected.
