The new criteria of hygienism, "ruralization" and pedestrianization of Barcelona represent a radical change in the model of mobility and public space, where how is as important as what.

During the last decades, the presence of the car in the city and in our daily life has experienced a constant increase, radically transforming the way we live and make use of urban space. However, there has also been a gradual process of raising awareness about environmental impact, increasing levels of pollution and noise and harmful effects on our health.

In this context, the concept of Superblock - which has already been explained in detail in this space - emerged a few years ago in response to these challenges. The Superblocks are based on the original idea of Ildefons Cerdà for the Eixample of Barcelona, proposing a reconversion of the urban fabric similar to that which have been experiencing the urban centers through pacification and pedestrianization, as well as an adaptation to the new existing challenges.
