Mikael Colville-Andersen: "Superblocks are the culmination of the Barcelona of Ildefons Cerdà"

The superblock of Poblenou, a pilot program to reduce the number of cars through limitations for the circulation in a straight line, has just blown out the candles without having managed to convince all the neighbors and shops in the perimeter. The city hall recognizes that there are still problems to solve, but it is determined to continue the project. Urbanist and guru Mikael Colville-Andersen (Fort McMurray, Canada, 1968) has been closely following the evolution of the superblock and, without hiding their enthusiasm, is critical: "It's a great idea badly executed ».

 

Colville-Andersen visited Barcelona on the occasion of the Rueda, the international film festival held last weekend, in which the protagonist is the bicycle and which aims to consolidate itself as a reference point for the cycling culture of southern Europe. One of the main sites has been precisely the Poblenou's superblock. "I love it. The superrblocks are the culmination of the Barcelona of Ildefons Cerdà », assures this Canadian urbanist, raised in Denmark.
