"Superblocks" are urban cells of about 400 x 400 metres in which motorized traffic and vehicle parking are minimized, giving pedestrians the highest priority in public space.

Cars and buses can only circulate through the perimeter streets, while the interior are reserved for pedestrians and certain types of vehicles, such as residents, services, loading and unloading, that can move to a maximum speed of 10 km/h.

In a dialogue with Info BLANCO SOBRE NEGRO, Councilor Luciano Sanguinetti, author of the ordinance project that proposes to implement a "superblock" in La Plata, explained: "The concept is to integrate several blocks to lower the number of cars and recover the places for pedestrians and cyclists ".

"It is in line with what we are working on with a team of urban design specialists. First we introduced the  design project of bike lanes and we are now pushing the idea of creating a free circuit only at tolidays, with the idea of raising awareness about the need to recover the public space for people", said the councilor of the Renovador Front. The pedestrian zone would be in street 8 from 44 to 53 and from the latter to the Bosque.
