In the XXI century, the natural habitat of the human being are the cities, which can be understood as systems that generate strong pressures on their own environments and inhabitants but also on the natural environment.

 

In the vision of the city as an ecosystem, the first need is finding a balance. It should be designed based on two major factors: the efficiency and habitability, to ensure that balance between resource flows of urban metabolism. This is the idea of ​​the city in which the ecological urbanism is based and which will be approached in this training activity.

Objectives:

The course objective is to learn the keys to generate a new city model from the two major limiters of sustainability: efficiency and habitability.

For this purpose, the course aims to:

- Knowing the legislative, theoretical and practical areas in which ecological urbanism is based.

- Raising awareness and promoting the use of tools and good practices identified in encouraging urban sustainability.

Experts:

Salvador Rueda,degree in Biology and Psychology and director of Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona.

Juan Carlos Barrios, degree in Biology and collaborator ECOMAS Research Group, Department of Ecology, Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Madrid.

David Alba,degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Education researcher and member of the ECOMAS Research Group, Department of Ecology, Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Enrollment:

Addressed to: technical and professional local managers, Law, Psychology, Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Political Science and Architecture students.

Duration: 75 hours.

Class size:limited to 45 students.

Structure: Online course with 3 face-to-face sessions: October 7th, November 11th and December 9th, from 4 to 9 pm.
